30 for 30 Summer 2011: Outfit 25

Sooo close to the end of 30 for 30. The end of the line, my friends. You will probably see some desperately pulled together outfits from here on out. Or super simple, like today's.
Necklace - Target, Blue cardigan - Gap Outlet, White cami - American Eagle, Dress - American Eagle, White watch - Michele Watches, Gold espadrilles - Michael Kors
I was watching the third season of True Blood with Husband over the weekend--guess who's wearing this dress, but more in purple tones? Anna Paquin's character Sookie Stackhouse. The only picture of Anna I could find is here, an entire site dedicated to the fashion choices of those in vampire shows and movies. Random, huh?
(Sookie isn't wearing jeans under the dress in the show, fyi.)

Tonight was book club, discussing In the Woods by Tana French. I've been wanting to read it for a while, but ruined it for myself accidentally. I was having a quick flip through, literally just flipping to see how the pages felt, what the text looked like, etc., when OMG, I saw the shortest sentence ever that said whodunit! It wasn't even at the very end so I thought I was safe just letting my eyes pause for a second to see the type. F'in A. I was so mad at myself. I still kind of hoped that there would be a twist at the end that would mean it wasn't that person or that I would even forget the name. No go.

Still, it was kind of interesting reading the book knowing from the start that it was...(*spoiler alert*)
....Damien. Mainly because this book, yes, spends time on solving the murder mystery, but also spends tons of time on more human elements--Detective Ryan's own childhood mystery and how its affected him, his relationship with his dynamic partner, her past too. And those parts are almost the most interesting. Sometimes they drag a bit, but overall, well-handled.

But, since I knew the whole time it was Damien, I saw from the beginning that he was too wimpy to have been the only one involved. Enter Rosalind. You knew that family was screwy from the beginning, but the father always seemed like a good man to me, the mother was nonexistent, the sister quiet. Sparkly Rosalind with her melodramatics was obviously the one, from their first meeting with her, to her theatrics at the funeral, to meeting only with Detective Ryan. It killed me a little at the end when Detective Ryan tells us that, yes, he was fooled, but we were too (the audience). I rolled my eyes because I'd like to think even if I hadn't known it was Damien, Rosalind would have still stuck out. Do you know how much Law and Order I've watched? Any time Rosalind was around, I felt like, Bitch, please.

Other things: Wow, um, what a bummer of an ending. I wonder if French's other books gives us more of a happy ending for Detective Ryan. I knew Cassie and Sam would end up together. Yes, he's the more stable man, but ugh, that still stunk. And French's vocab is pretty awesome. Not like you have to wear your thinking cap the whole time, but I'm glad I read this one on my Kindle so I could look up at least one word per chapter. I'll definitely read more from French.
