Review and Wear Wednesday: We Need to Talk About Kevin

So I recently read a book that we need to talk about--We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. I'm recommending it to everybody. It's not an easy book to read, and if you're pregnant or have a child, it might worry you (not me, I'm convinced my baby's a sweetie). But it's the best book I've read so far this year! And now I need to watch the movie, starring Tilda Swinton. Speaking of Swinton, are you familiar with her style?
White button-down - Petite Sophisticate, Lavender cami - Express, Bracelet - Stand in Hawaii, Maxi skirt - Express
She's known for her androgynous beauty. When she isn't wearing well-tailored pants, she's in a long skirt, and since I can't fit into any pants lately, guess what I went with?
Swinton also knows how to work a blouse.
I couldn't work in any fabrics with a sheen, silk or satin, like Swinton does a lot, but my bracelet is a shout-out to that.
So that's me, Swinton-fied.
But what about the book? I said we need to talk about it!

Summer pink

Whooo, boy, do you know how long I've had this dress?
Dress - Hollister, Flip-flops (not pictures) - Rainbows
It's from Hollister, you guys, so that should tell you something.
Don't tell anybody I still have it.
Hollister is right in between Abercrombie and Abercrombie & Fitch, age-wise, which probably means I shouldn't be wearing this beyond high school...but I bought it while in college. Because it was on sale! And look at that beautiful pink color!
Maternity wear from Hollister--not actually a thing.

Fave of the Week: May 19-May 25

This week's fave is from Monday.
Even though I was pretty harsh on this dress (because of how it makes me feel like Kate Gosselin), I was still happy to wear a comfortable dress (it's all about comfort right now, people). There's really something to be said for wearing an easy, breezy dress. Even when it is black and not a fun of color. Use it to your advantage! Wear some bright accessories! Try out some fun shoes (I'm not able to at the moment, but you do it!).

Will travel for pizza

Speaking of changes, travel, etc., I remember when Husband and I found this dress while hanging out in Arizona.
Black cardigan - Gap Outlet, Purple dress - Gap Outlet, Leggings - Roots, Flip-flops - Rainbows
That was such a lovely trip--did some hiking, went to Biosphere 2, and had the best pizza of my life.
Anybody else think of pizza when they think of Phoenix?
Husband and I are quite the pizza connoisseurs.
Baby is, too.

Changes

Lately I've been thinking about how far Husband and I have come--from the beginning of our relationship, getting married, the places we've traveled together...to now when we're expecting Baby. For example, I remember when I wore this top (in fuchsia) in Toronto as a dress.
Blue top - Forever 21, Beige tank (underneath) - Have had forever, Gold cardigan - H&M, White watch - Michele Watches, Brown leggings - American Eagle
Granted, it was always meant to be a top and not a dress but, you guys, I packed all wrong and it was hot in Toronto. Whatever--it covered everything it needed to.
And now my belly's so big!
All of my dresses and tunics have gone up a couple of inches because of my belly.
And nothing really gets buttoned up anymore.
Even though my clothes fit differently, Husband and I are still able to gallivant and enjoy date nights. Soon I won't have my belly, but Baby will be here. It's hard to imagine the changes that are going to come along then....

Mommy style

Remember when these dresses were everywhere?
Black dress - Ann Taylor Loft, Necklace - Arden B., Teal watch - Michele Watches, Flip-flops - Rainbows
Then I saw a picture of Kate Gosselin wearing this same exact dress and felt like, Oh no, I can't wear that dress anymore. But here I am, pregnant and searching for things in my closet that still fit, and here we go!
Never say never.
It's just that this dress is so roomy! And long enough to wear with my big belly and still not have it ride up enough in the front to be indecent.
I should just embrace it. I am a mom now after all. Me and Kate Gosselin.

Fave of the Week: May 12-May18

I liked my outfits from this week, but I went with Saturday/Sunday's outfit for my fave.
This kerchief is really one of my favorite accessories. There are so many pretty colors that it's easy to coordinate with outfits, but I usually like to wear it with casual, summer-y outfits. I need to accessorize more (I don't invest enough in jewelry, etc.), but when I do, I go for things I love (which is one of the reasons I don't invest more in it--I love what I already have). Find what you love! Maybe you like fun colors, maybe you love dangly earrings, maybe you only like gold. Find what you like and work it.

Hair did

Being pregnant and a bit bored with my clothes, I'm trying to focus more on my hair. That doesn't go well all the time either (so don't expect to see perfect hair everyday) because of my lack of time (extra time = sleeping more), but I'm trying!
Don't forget hair accessories, like my favorite purple headband from Nordstrom.
And there's a familiar-looking dress!
Headband - Nordstrom, Dress - Forever 21, Black tank - Target, Black leggings - Roots, Sandals - Dolce Vita
All of my dresses have gotten a bit short in the front. When I'm really paranoid about it (or it's just plain unavoidable), I grab some leggings.
Empire waist dresses are a pregnant lady's best friend. Next to leggings. And pretty hair.

Review and Wear Wednesday: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

How's the book reading going, everybody? I'm nearly at 30 books, and my goal is 85 this year. Whew--being that it's halfway through the year and I'm at some point going to have a baby...I don't know if I'll make it. Maybe if I start counting picture books?
Necklace and bracelets - Fair trade store in the UK, Scarf - Necklush, Shirt - Destination Maternity, Jeans - Destination Maternity, Flip-flops - Rainbows
At some point, that's all I'm going to have the brain space for...But right now, I'm reading things like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. It's coming to theaters soon, and I like to read things before watching the movie.
So I can judge, judge, judge the movie.
For my outfit, I went with a gray background with red accents, to match the book cover.
This scarf from Necklush is one of my favorites.
This is a fun cover, right? I mean, as far as beheading covers go.
So am I going to watch the movie? Well, if I'm going to base it on the book...probably not. Even though I really wanted to like this one. I mean, who doesn't like Abraham Lincoln? Who doesn't like kick-butt vampire hunters? And when you put them together, you think it's going to be amazing!

Eh, maybe from a different writer it would have been.

Haturday - 12 May 2012

Omigoodness, you guys, it's been so long since we've done a Haturday!
Kerchief - Primark, Jacket - Pac Sun, White watch - Michele Watches, Top - Anthropologie, Jeans - Destination Maternity, Flip-flops (not shown) - Rainbows
That's right--I'm counting this as a hat. It's an accessory for my head, which is close enough, right?
Here's a better view.
I liked this outfit so much and I have so few clothes that fit now that I wore this all weekend, including to the New Edition concert.
Bobby was there too, you guys!
This is how my outfits are now--on constant repeat (especially on the weekends) and ending with flip-flops (so you might not see my feet in my pics sometimes because, eh, they're flip-flops). Cut me some slack--I'm playing the pregnancy card.

Fave of the Week: May 5-May 11

It wasn't too difficult to choose my fave from this week...Friday's outfit wins!
This dress is a great example of...color! Don't be afraid of it! ASOS had this dress for sale in black as well, and yes, LBDs are great, but I try not to buy too much black. We all wear it too much, especially in the work place. Why? I suppose because it's "easy" because we think black goes with everything. But this fun color can go with a lot too! Here I'm wearing it with neutrals, but I can picture it with navy, green, yellow....And this color definitely lifts my spirits and grabs more people's attention than black ever would.

ASOS to the rescue

So right after complaining about the lack of stylish maternity clothes...we have this! A new dress!
Maternity dress - ASOS, Cardigan - Nordstrom, Necklace - Kate Spade, Watch - Michele Watches, Sandals - Jeffrey Campbell
A friend/coworker introduced me to ASOS and their maternity section.
Isn't it the best feeling--wearing a new dress?
I ordered three dresses and one skirt, not expecting any of it to work because I had never ordered from them before. This was the only thing that worked, but I was still happy.
And, you guys, free shipping there and back!
My favorite part about this dress? Nope, not the color, though that got lots of compliments.
Look how swingy and flowy and fun!

Find more scarves then?

There are some days I wake up determined on being a more fashionable person. I think things like, What's hot? Blazers! What's an easy accessory? A scarf!
Scarf - Nordstrom Rack (Present from Parents), Blazer - Nordstrom, Shirt - Destination Maternity, Pants - Destination Maternity, Sandals - Jeffrey Campbell
I don't want to be a big whiner, guys, but it's hard being fashionable when you're pregnant and somewhat on a budget.
All the money I'm saving is going to the Baby's outfits (amongst other things).
For example, you'll see me wearing these pants in a few more pics but now I'm starting to outgrow them. What will I wear then?!
I do need some maternity shorts now that it's getting hot...
And, you guys, I've looked. While non-pregnant people are running around in animal print pants or bright colored denim, or better yet, fun patterned shorts, all I see available for pregnant ladies are regular ol' denim, complete with a stretchy waistband at the top. That's it.

Pink and green

You know what's a great color combo? Green and pink. Whether it's classic kelly green with hot pink, or today's outfit of olive green and Pepto-Bismol pink.
Pink tank - Pac Sun, Dress - J. Crew, Sandals - Jeffrey Campbell
Wow, my outfit/store listings have become so short! I know it's getting warmer out, but I think it's mainly because I've been too short on time to accessorize. Most days I just struggle to put together an outfit that fits, so accessories are just too much for me.
But, Michelle, why don't you just give more time to planning outfits, like you used to?
While I enjoy and miss sitting in my closet for hours at a time, putting clothes together by outfit, putting accessories on the hangers so I won't forget how things go together, lining up outfits for weeks at a time...
...I'm just too tired lately.

Fave of the Week: April 28-May 4

It was difficult to choose a fave. I had a good week, mainly because the blog is back in full swing, which means I've had to step it up a notch with the clothes. I'm going with Monday's outfit as my fave, though.
I love combining black and yellow! To not look like a bee, don't go with two solid colors. The white print on the black dress breaks it up enough. Then go for some softer accessories--instead of a black belt and shoes, I went for a softer brown. I already mentioned how leopard print accessories like this belt bring together black and brown so well, but it also echoes the yellow of the cardigan. So don't be afraid to combine colors you're afraid of--black and yellow, black and brown. It can all work together!

Growing girly

I am so glad my wardrobe features so many forgiving and stretchy dresses.
Black tank - Target, Dress (more like a tunic now) - Nordstrom, Leggings - Roots, Sandals - Dolce Vita
I am a little concerned this one has been stretched to its limits. Maybe after washing it, it'll get back to its original shape and I'll wear it after the pregnancy again.
Pregnancy, you say? What pregnancy?
Let's move this panel aside, shall we?
Well, well, well--what is this?
Gasp!
Where did you come from?
