A bit boho

Today was hot, and I knew I would be in a crowd for Child's school event. I needed to wear something comfortable that would let the air flow. Thus, today's outfit:
White cami - American Eagle, Tunic as shirt - Arden B., Black skirt - Express, Sandals - Dolce Vita
I even wore flat sandals, which made me feel ultra-short all day. I don't mind being short, I actually like being short, but I've been majorly into wearing heels for about a year now. When I don't wear them, wow, I feel so low to the ground.
Purple cardigan (to make this more work-appropriate) - Express
I rushed home after work to make dinner, make an extra dinner (straight into the freezer for later), and dessert for the fam. Um, has anybody else ever made apple dumplings with Mountain Dew? Amazing, and the best part is that it's super simple and fast to make.

Gotta work those accessories

I will just start this by saying: I do not support tanning. It's terrible for your skin, and I do everything from sunscreen to giant hats to hiding under a towel to keep my skin protected. In fact, I have always wished that I had fair skin (and red hair). But, if you do have a tan, fresh from the beach, as is my situation, rock a white shirt.
Yellow necklace - Nordstrom, White button-down - Petite Sophisticate, Bronze belt - Target, White Watch - Michele Watches, Brown pants - Express, Sandals - Jeffrey Campbell
My tan was basically the best accessory ever.

My office is pretty casual so even though I used to wear this sort of thing often when I started the job, it's kind of fallen on the wayside. I stepped it up a bit, though, because today we had a visitor. I rediscovered this super professional white shirt the first time I wore a tie, and I wanted to stick to easy colors to showcase my necklace.
Gah, I love it. After parading around trying to feel like a million bucks and sitting in some meetings, I scooted off early. I actually started getting sick yesterday, and very honestly, the only thing keeping me together for most of today was wearing this outfit. (Yes, I did just admit that.) I drove home feeling way less than a million, crawled into bed, and took a nap. And maybe got through a good amount of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I stopped before Harry goes into the maze because you know that's when ish goes down.

American Prep Menswear, Take Two

So after the Bloggers Do It Better Challenge, I felt really inspired to keep integrating ties into my outfits. I had just one more tie in my collection, an old knit one stolen from my dad's closet.
It's maroon (a great color on him) with multi-colored stripes of blue, pink, and yellow. I took it for a spin with a polo shirt that I've been wanting to also wear with this skirt. I'm still not sure, even now at the end of the day, how I feel about the combination, but I got tons of compliments. It was kind of bizarre, actually, how the first time I wore a tie, I got only one comment, but today, wow, tons of comments.
Blue polo shirt - Lacoste, Tie - from Dad's closet, Skirt - Ann Taylor Loft, Watch - Michele Watches, Patent leather green wedges - Steve Madden
Also, I had no idea what shoes to wear, so I decided to throw in another color. I think my brain is fried from having to be so creative while planning for the 30 for 30. I have 29 things chosen! I can't decide if my last thing should be an extra dress, to have as a back-up that will probably give me two or three more outfits, or if I should go with another pair of shoes since I currently have three pairs and that doesn't seem like quite enough.

Back to work, back to blogging, back to regular life. Do I look tan, though?
Wrap dress - Express, Black cami - ...somewhere...no label, Black heels - Target
After getting back yesterday evening, I didn't feel like doing a whole heck of a lot except planning out my outfits for the 30 for 30 challenge. It starts on Monday, so what you're seeing the rest of this week are non-30 for 30 outfits.
I adored this wrap dress when I first saw it at Express, but I'm so glad I bought it on sale for $15 because it's pretty poor quality. Thin material that really wants to start pilling at the bottom. But it works well enough for a summer work outfit.

My hair looked super blah, so I threw it up in this kicky ponytail, and somehow managed to do that whole "pick up some strands, wind it around the hair band, and pin it so it looks like your hair is magically holding up your hair!" look. Do not ask me why I could never manage this. Either I picked up too much hair, too little hair, not the right length hair, it wouldn't pin right, the hair holding the hair would start to slide down, etc.
So now I am a tan outfit-planner and have managed to work out some hair issues. What I am not is a good reader, as I did not finish, did not even come close to finishing books while at the beach. I did finish before leaving The Elephant Keeper by Christopher Nicholson.

Fave of the week: May 28 - June 3

I'm throwing up the fave of the week a day or two early since I won't be posting the rest of the weekend. I very much liked my outfit from Sunday (casual but stylish), but I gotta go with Tuesday's outfit.
(1) Because I can't keep choosing weekend outfits (what can I say? I get to fully express myself and I am apparently a creature of comfort) and (2) this outfit made me feel like a lady.

Beautifully made skirt with a fun pattern and colors, and of an appropriate length with pockets. Combined with a white blouse and brown belt to give it a crisp but light feel...this outfit made me feel like a million bucks all day.

Guess where I'm going...

Sundresses, T-shirts, and bathing suits--oh my! That's right--I'm heading to the beach for a few days.
Hat - American Eagle, Purple Cardigan - Express, Pink tank top - PacSun (Husband found), Dress - PacSun (Husband found), Jeggings - American Eagle (Husband found), Wedges - Me Too
This is my "I went to work for half a day, threw the family's clothes into bags, and now we're hopping into the car to drive for a while" outfit. Don't worry--I've got the Kindle and The Instructions with me for the drive and beach reading. Can't wait! Have lovely weekends....

The prettiest dress

Do you know how bad today was? And, actually, kind of yesterday too? So bad that you're not going to get today's outfit. This is yesterday's, and that's all you get to see:
Dress - Anthropologie, White cami - American Eagle, Pinkish-red wedges - Me Too
Things have been so crazy that I haven't been putting on make-up. This hairdo? I put my hair in a bun to wash my face and decided that it was also just fine for the rest of the day. But sometimes it's okay to do things like that, for example, when you're wearing the prettiest dress in your closet (it distracts people from the face-washing bun...I think).
It's a wrap dress from Anthropologie, in just the most gorgeous colors. I love wrap dresses, I love colors, and though I normally don't do this much color in such a flowered pattern, it's turned into a dearly loved dress. The shoes didn't perfectly match any color, but went well with the pinks, reds, and even the blue background.
I was actually wearing a cute dress today too but my hair was awful, I didn't take a picture, and even though Husband said, "Are you sure?" with the camera all ready to go, all I could was grumble and step right on out of that dress.
